The 25 best Albanian gift ideas

Albanian gifts for large budgets

#1 Geometric map of Albania

Maps are definitely one of the best gifts for locals as well as for visitors. That’s also why you will find two maps of Albania on this list.

This first one is my favorite because I simply love geometric shapes. It’s available in three different sizes and thirteen different colors.

Check out #10 for the second map.

#2 Kilim rug

One of the most iconic Albanian souvenirs is a kilim rug.

A kilim rug is a woven wool rug that’s handmade by local artisans, you can find them in all sorts of bright colors and patterns, which often represent the village’s tribal pattern. Though nowadays it usually represents the artist’s creative mind rather than a village.

On Etsy, you can find kilims that are handmade in Albania and shipped around the world. Do keep in mind that most of them are handmade and one-of-a-kind, so chances are the one in the photo is already sold out by the time you’re reading this. But don’t worry, simply head over to Etsy and you will find plenty of designs.

#3 Traditional Albanian instrument

If you are looking for traditional Albanian gifts for someone who loves music, this musical instrument is the gift you need.

It’s called a cifteli, a two-stringed instrument that is often used at weddings or traditional folk songs in Albania.

#4 Albanian gift basket

Whether you’re looking for gifts from Albania for a homesick local or a visitor who just returned from the land of the two-headed eagle, this nostalgia gift box is the pick-me-up they need!

It’s filled with typical Albanian items that will transport them back to the busy streets of Tirana, the gorgeous coast of Saranda, or the endless mountains in the Albanian Alps. From a scarf and coffee to snacks and a deck of cards to keep them entertained in Albanian style.

#5 Phone case

Are you looking for Albanian gifts for someone whose phone seems to be glued to their hands?

Look no further.

All you need is an Albania-inspired phone case from Zazzle. There are nearly 300 different designs you can choose from. But for a local Albanian, my favorite one is this “Albanian at heart”.

One downside of Zazzle’s phone cases is that they only provide cases for iPhones and Samsung phones. If the recipient uses a different phone brand, you will have to choose one of the other gifts on this list.

#6 A trip to Albania

A painting of the Albanian museum of national history in Tirana

This is by far the best gift for anyone who loves Albania, whether it’s for a homesick local or a traveler, a trip to the land of the eagles!

So if you can afford it, head over to Skyscanner and book a flight to Tirana (the capital city with the most international flight connections) right away!

Now, I can imagine that a true Albania lover (such as your recipient) already has a flight booked. Or perhaps the receiver already lives in Albania. In that case, booking a flight doesn’t make any sense. But don’t worry, you can still give them a fun experience in Albania, such as a visit to the National Historical Museum or other tours through Tinggly.

Or if you want the recipient to choose something themselves, you can also go for the Tinggly Gift Card which allows them to choose whichever tour they prefer.

#7 Jigsaw puzzle

This jigsaw puzzle of the skyline of Tirana is a great gift idea for people who love jigsaw puzzles (no sh*t Sherlock). It’s also a fun gift for people who are stuck at home and can’t travel to Albania at the moment. This puzzle can bring them some Albanian comfort at home. But check out Zazzle for people who are not much of a fan of Tirana.

#8 Water bottle

Then you should definitely check out the 80+ Albania-inspired water bottles on Zazzle.

And for people who love Tirana, you can skip that and just go for the bottle I selected.

Albanian gifts for mid-budgets

#9 Albanian cognac

There are two types of famous Albania liquor. The first one is Raki, a strong anise-flavored drink that you may also know from Turkey and Greece where it’s a popular drink too. It’s probably the most common drink around the country because basically, every family brews their own raki.

I don’t think there’s been a restaurant or guesthouse that didn’t offer me a homebrewed raki. You can find raki online, but I’m going to be honest here, it’s not the same as the homemade ones. Personally, if you’re not buying it in Albania but online, I would recommend going for Skenderbeu cognac, a traditional Albanian cognac.

#10 Colorful map of Albania

This is the second map of Albania on this list. This time is a beautiful colorful map. Again, it’s available in different sizes, so you can pick one that would fit well in the receiver’s home.

Or check out Etsy for more map designs.

#11 Albania soccer jersey

#13 Fun Albanian shirt

I think this is one of the funniest Albanian gift ideas on this list. A shirt with “What part of zhduku don’t you understand?”.

Now for me, it’s everything about Zhduku I don’t understand (and I’m pretty sure most non-Albanian speakers are with me on that). But for locals, it’s a funny shirt.

Oh, and in case you are wondering what it means, it means to f*ck off ;).

#14 Novel set in Albania

If you are looking for gifts for people who are interested in learning more about life under the communist regime and Albania’s fight for independence, this is a beautiful book. It’s based on a true story, but written like a novel, making it an informative, yet easy-to-read book.

#15 Beanie

This is one of the best Albanian souvenirs for people who are always cold. A beanie with embroidery of the Albanian eagle.

#16 Albanian language course

This is by far the best Albanian gift idea for someone who wants to move to Albania, or for someone who loves learning languages.

It’s also a very practical gift for people who want to understand the inside joke of the t-shirt I just mentioned (#13).

There are two ways in which you can gift a language course.

The first one is available on Amazon and it’s a beginner’s book with online audio fragments. This is best for people who are self-disciplined and learn best from books.

The second option is best for visual learners, as it’s an online Albanian course on Udemy.

#17 Travel mug

Is the recipient a big coffee lover?

Then you are in good luck because you will find two awesome Albanian gift ideas for coffee snobs on this list.

The first one is a travel mug with an Albanian theme. You can find over a hundred different designs on Zazzle. But if you’re not sure, something with a map, such as the one I selected is always a good idea.

For the second gift idea, head over to the next gift.

Albanian gifts for small budgets

#18 Albanian coffee

Are you looking for unique gifts from Albania for someone who loves coffee?

Then a package of Albanian roast coffee is perfect.

Albanian roast coffee is a very fine ground coffee that is used to make Balkan coffee.

Now, if you’re not much of a coffee snob, you may be wondering what the F* Balkan coffee is. So let me explain.

Basically, it’s comparable to Greek or Turkish coffee. It’s also made in a briki in which you put finely ground coffee, hot water, and sugar to taste. This is put on the stove and produces a strong but very rich coffee, which true coffee connoisseurs will surely appreciate.

#19 Albania map necklace

This is one of the cutest Albanian gift ideas for women. A small necklace that’s shaped like the map of Albania. I love that it’s a very subtle detail through which she can show her love for Albania.

#20 Albanian wood gifts

#22 Coasters

The two-headed eagle is the iconic and proud symbol of the Albanians, so if you need Albanian gifts for someone who just moved to a new home, these coasters are the perfect way to protect their furniture with a piece of cultural heritage.

Fun fact.

Did you know that the two-headed eagle was first chosen by Skanderbeg (the national hero of Albania) when he fought for Alabania’s independence against the Ottomans back in 1443? Even though many events and new rulers have come and left since then, the two-headed eagle has remained the symbol of independence for the Albanians.
